Integrated outdoor furniture installation for BCF

Client: BenchmarkContract Furniture (BCF), Jacksonville, Florida

Project location: Denver, Colorado

Partnership duration: 25+ years of ongoing manufacturing collaboration

The Challenge

Benchmark Contract Furniture approached Shape Industries with a large-scale request to design and manufacture a comprehensive furniture collection for a high-traffic public space in Denver. The project involved both standard and custom elements: upholstered chairs, banquet seating, coffee and dining tables, children’s beam seating, and abstract outdoor benches. A wide variety of materials and complex finishing techniques were required, including metal, wood, stone, and textile.

The furniture was intended for both indoor and outdoor environments, which introduced additional durability requirements, particularly regarding weather resistance. The diversity of designs demanded precise coordination across departments to ensure dimensional accuracy, aesthetic consistency, and timely delivery. Maintaining visual harmony while simplifying maintenance was critical for the client.

The Solution

To execute the project, Shape Industries mobilized nearly all of its core manufacturing divisions. We coordinated a cross-functional workflow involving upholstery, woodworking, metal fabrication, finishing, and logistics teams.

One of the key technologies applied was sublimation—a specialty metal finishing process that produces a realistic wood-like appearance on metal surfaces. Unlike natural wood, sublimated metal is UV-resistant, weatherproof, and maintenance-free. This technique was applied to most of the structural components, helping to achieve a warm, natural aesthetic without compromising on longevity.

Additional processes included:

  • Precision upholstery and panel wrapping

  • Stone cutting for durable tabletops

  • Powder coating of all metal components

  • Hand finishing of wood surfaces

  • Full assembly and final quality control in-house

Our project management team played a central role—coordinating technical documentation, overseeing production timelines, and ensuring seamless integration of all components. Their involvement ensured that all elements met design intent and were delivered on schedule.

The Result

The project was successfully completed on time and stands as a strong example of Shape Industries’ ability to deliver end-to-end solutions for complex custom orders. We produced over a dozen unique furniture elements while maintaining a cohesive design and performance standard across the collection. Thanks to sublimation, the metal structures now offer the warmth of natural wood with the added benefit of durability and zero maintenance—especially critical for outdoor public spaces.

All pieces were delivered and installed in Denver, creating a comfortable, visually appealing, and weather-resistant environment for the public to enjoy. The outcome reaffirmed that Shape Industries is not just a furniture manufacturer but a trusted project partner for architects, designers, and developers—combining engineering precision, material expertise, and operational reliability.
