Brandon bus shelter

Client: City of Brandon, Manitoba

The Challenge

The City of Brandon issued a public tender for the supply and installation of modern bus shelters to improve comfort and safety for transit users across key locations in the city.

The shelters needed to meet strict municipal requirements for durability, accessibility, vandal resistance, and long-term maintenance. The structures also had to withstand Manitoba’s harsh climate conditions, including heavy snow loads, strong winds, and extreme temperature variations.

In addition to structural performance, the shelters were required to integrate functional urban elements such as seating, visibility for passengers and drivers, and space for transit information and advertising panels.

The Solution

After winning the municipal tender, Shape Industries designed and manufactured a robust bus shelter system tailored to the City of Brandon’s operational and environmental requirements.

Each shelter features an all-aluminum structural frame, providing corrosion resistance and long service life with minimal maintenance.

Transparent Hammerglass panels were used for the walls and roof system. Hammerglass is significantly stronger than traditional glass, offering high impact resistance while maintaining excellent visibility and safety for passengers.

The shelters also integrate several functional components:
- vandal-resistant Hammerglass wall panels;
- durable aluminum frame construction;
- integrated bench seating;
- solar panel for independent power supply;
- LED lighting for improved nighttime visibility;
- space for transit information and advertising displays;

All shelters were engineered for secure bolt-down installation, ensuring stability and safety in public environments.

- Impact-resistant Hammerglass panels;
- Integrated seating for passenger comfort;
- Solar panel and LED lighting system;
- Advertising display panels;
- Accessibility-friendly layout with mobility aid space;
- Weather protection for year-round transit use.

The Result

The completed shelters provide Brandon residents with a durable and comfortable waiting environment while improving the overall quality of the city’s public transit infrastructure.

The combination of aluminum structural frames and Hammerglass panels ensures long-term reliability, vandal resistance, and minimal maintenance requirements, critical factors for municipal infrastructure.

This project demonstrates Shape Industries’ ability to deliver complete urban infrastructure solutions, from engineering and manufacturing to installation, meeting the strict standards required for public transportation environments.
